Update: As of October 2017, both Penny and Rusty have forever homes! Penny and Rusty, two very special dachshunds, need a forever home. Penny is a light-shaded Red/Cream with a dapple in one of her eyes. Penny is currently six (6) years old. She'll be seven (7) this Fall. When Penny was six-months-old she was in the hit 3-D movie 'HUGO', directed by Martin Scorsese! Since that time her luck has changed. Her beloved owner is terminally ill, so Penny and her side-kick, Rusty, are hoping to find a home where they can live happily-ever-after, just like the movies. Rusty is just shy of five (5) years old. Both Rusty and Penny are wonderful family dogs. They are very friendly and tend to bond quickly with people. Both are good with small children. Penny and Rusty are up-to-date on vaccinations, and were seen by a vet on July 13th. If you are interested in finding out more about this bonded pair contact email@example.com for details.
Dachshund purses, hand-made and designed by J.T. will be on display at the Annual Wiener Roast on July 16th. They come in 3 styles: Wire-haired, Long-haired, and Smooth-coat! More information about these beautiful creations coming soon!
It's official! Peace of Mind Dog Rescue (POMDR) will be at the Annual Wiener Roast with adoptable dachshunds! SPREAD THE WORD! WE need to find homes for these babies! Here are some of the dachshunds available through Peace of Mind!
Alice and Sandy are available throught PEACE OF MIND Dog Rescue (POMDR).
Breed: Dachshund, Dachshund
Age: 11 years, 12 years
Weight: 9 pounds, 9 pounds
Gender: Female, Female
Alice and Sandy are a mother-daughter duo who are both incredibly sweet with new people. They tend to cruise around the yard together and are very bonded. Sandy can be a little shy at first, but once Alice crawls into your lap, Sandy isn't far behind. Both do well meeting dogs of all sizes. They have also lived with a kitty before and did just fine.
Alice is diabetic, but luckily, she is a champ and is very patient and calm while getting her insulin injections twice a day.
Sandy and Alice were surrendered to us when their guardian became ill and could no longer care for them. They have been very loved family dogs.
If you would like to meet Alice Doxie and Sandy Doxie follow this link to POMDR's online application.
Birka is a 3-year-old standard, smooth-coat, dachshund, weighing between 17 and 18 pounds. She was born in Germany and was produced by a kennel that "breeds to preserve the dachshund’s original nature, and cultivate its hunting characteristics.” Birka comes with papers, medical records, a passport, and she is up-to-date on her vaccinations (rabies through 2019). She is just over 3-years old, is house-trained and crate-trained. Birka is absolutely stunning. Her classic form is reminiscent of a show dog. She walks well on a leash – prancing as she walks.
Birka is an exceptional companion. She is very devoted to her caretakers and rather easy to get along with. She is loving, playful and affectionate. Her ideal home would consist of a single person, or a couple. Birka would not do well in a home with children or small pets. The ideal home would have no children and no pets.
Birka formerly lived with a male Rhodesian Ridgeback, which suggests she may do well with larger male dogs. She does not always back down when provoked more than once by other dogs – especially. This is why we recommend that she be placed in a home with no pets.
Birka came from a family home – a husband, wife, and two children. She did exceptionally well with the family children she grew up with; however, she does not always do well around children she does not know. This is classic dachshund behavior, “Dachshunds are typically suspicious toward strangers when not socialized enough. To overcome the behavior, extensive desensitizing training is needed.”
Birka needs someone who is willing to work with her. We have seen progress in the short time we have had her, but it may take many months to correct this behavior. We would love to keep Birka, but we already have a house full of dachshunds. Can you help Birka?
The adoption fee for Birka is negotiable. Any money exchanged will be donated directly to a charity. If interested, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org

UPDATE: FLASH found a new home on 1/14/16 - Thank you ALL for your SUPPORT!
Flash is a 10-year-old mini-dachshund. He has a sweet disposition and loves to play fetch! Flash has been with his owner since he was a puppy. Unfortunately, his owner is no longer able to give Flash the attention he deserves, due to his busy work schedule. Flash has been cared for by his owner and relatives, but his owner has decided to do what is best for Flash and find a new home. Flash gets along well with other dogs. Flash used to have a playmate, but his playmate passed away recently. It is the owner’s preference that Flash be placed in a home with another dog, if possible.
According to the owner, Flash is in good health, has had no medical issues and is up-to-date on his vaccinations. Flash is a mini - he weighs about 12 LBS. The attached photo was taken this week (January 2016). If interested contact firstname.lastname@example.org
