Birka is a 3-year-old standard, smooth-coat, dachshund, weighing between 17 and 18 pounds. She was born in Germany and was produced by a kennel that "breeds to preserve the dachshund’s original nature, and cultivate its hunting characteristics.” Birka comes with papers, medical records, a passport, and she is up-to-date on her vaccinations (rabies through 2019). She is just over 3-years old, is house-trained and crate-trained. Birka is absolutely stunning. Her classic form is reminiscent of a show dog. She walks well on a leash – prancing as she walks.
Birka is an exceptional companion. She is very devoted to her caretakers and rather easy to get along with. She is loving, playful and affectionate. Her ideal home would consist of a single person, or a couple. Birka would not do well in a home with children or small pets. The ideal home would have no children and no pets.
Birka formerly lived with a male Rhodesian Ridgeback, which suggests she may do well with larger male dogs. She does not always back down when provoked more than once by other dogs – especially. This is why we recommend that she be placed in a home with no pets.
Birka came from a family home – a husband, wife, and two children. She did exceptionally well with the family children she grew up with; however, she does not always do well around children she does not know. This is classic dachshund behavior, “Dachshunds are typically suspicious toward strangers when not socialized enough. To overcome the behavior, extensive desensitizing training is needed.”
Birka needs someone who is willing to work with her. We have seen progress in the short time we have had her, but it may take many months to correct this behavior. We would love to keep Birka, but we already have a house full of dachshunds. Can you help Birka?
The adoption fee for Birka is negotiable. Any money exchanged will be donated directly to a charity. If interested, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
